How to get to Les Collons
Les Collons can be reached by plane via Geneva from the main UK and certain regional airports. In addition during the winter Sion can be reached direct from the London airports and then by bus or car hire at the airport. A train service operates from Geneva to Sion where a bus service can take you to the resort. Approximate transfer time 2 hours from Geneva. By road Les Collons is 1 hour 45 minutes from Geneva
The Resort and Area
This dual season, East/South facing, snow sure village, split on 3 parallel terraces by pine and larch forests at elevations of 1800m, 1850m and 1900m in the Valais region of Switzerland is only 15 km (20 mins) from Sion and 1 hour 45 minutes from Geneva Airport. The local Sion Airport takes some flights during the winter and is currently undergoing upgrades and could, longer term, have a substantial impact on future property prices.
Each of the terraces are linked into one of largest and highest skiing areas in Europe and the largest in Switzerland, the 4 Valleys. With snow from November till April, the network of ski trails that make up the 5 star 4 Valleys, to an altitude of 3300m, caters for all levels from beginners to experts, covering some 400km of slopes and 92 lifts that link with the famous resort of Verbier. Off Piste skiing has come into its own in the 4 Valleys, commonly known here as free riding.
Les Collons boasts all the usual amenities, including sports shops offering everything from ski equipment, rental and ski school to restaurants, bars and a couple of supermarkets. A swimming pool and other facilities can be found just 10 minutes away in Thyon on the free ski bus, as well as kids club and creche. A Spa is also being built in the near future in the village, which will bring many more amenities as well as visitors and hence rental possibilities.
From Les Collons you can see the world famous Matterhorn mountain as well as being able to take in the spectacular array of peaks at your finger tips.
The area of Les Collons / Thyon is host to the Telemark competition again in 2007, attracting many visitors to the resort both for the skiing and the spectacle. With downhill, cross country and speed skiing, the slopes here are fantastic, wide, open, sunny and very quiet with no queues and suitable for beginners and intermediaries. For the more advanced if you fancy the challenge, ski to Verbier in 1 hour 30 minutes.
As well as skiing, why not try dog sledding, snow mobiling, ice skating, curling, cross country skiing or in summer take advantage of the 300km of hiking trails, 70km of mountain bike trails, horse riding, paragliding, fishing, climbing, swimming pool, tennis and lots more in the area
In the summer, with 10 golf courses located in 8 resorts, all within an hours drive from the village to choose from, golf has found a home in Valais.
The Severiano Ballesteros championship course at Crans Montana, is home to the European Masters, the most prestigious golf tournament in Europe after the British Open. Golfing Magazines have included this course in their list of the most beautiful courses in the world, with views of the Matterhorn and Mont Blanc to take your breath away.
Rental opportunities in Les Collons
Being a dual resort if you are looking to rent your chalet or apartment to cover some of the costs, this location offers great potential throughout the winter and summer periods thanks to its access to the 4 Valleys. There is a distinct lack of high quality rental accommodation and local agencies are very keen to work with you owing to this shortage.
Owning your own property in Les Collons
Les Collons still retains its warmth and charm with locals running their own small stores. The whole area is receiving huge investment with new ski lifts being installed and upgraded all the time. This is a great location for those looking to invest in an area that is going to give you good capital return, thanks to the cost of land increasing each year.
Tele-Verbier are also currently in discussion with Tele-Thyon re forming a partnership. Should this progress it is expected land prices will double in 12 months so now is the time to buy!
